Mike Nuckolls
Coach
I have quite an affinity for change. A quick look at my resume and change jumps out as a major theme.
Over the years, I have also found that nothing is more satisfying to me than encouraging others to make changes that improve their lives. Coaching grew out of this desire to see people better themselves.
As a coach, I make it my mission to encourage and support people in finding and achieving a new direction. Through both counseling and coaching, I have encountered many people who feel stuck and unable to find direction in their work, relationships, or free time.
The road to becoming a coach flowed from a change in career path I decided to make in 2004. Through volunteer outreach trips helping people recover from disastrous situation, I began to refocus on including more meaning in my life. I had a desire to help people who had gotten stuck, experienced difficult life-changing experiences, or just needed a listening ear. That led to earning a Master of Arts in Counseling degree from Wake Forest University in 2007, becoming a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and eventually to the private mental health counseling practice, Newcastle Counseling & Development PLLC, that I currently run in addition to coaching.
I spent my early career in a small publishing company managing people, accounting, human resources, special projects, and conferences as well as writing. It was a place where I learned what empowering employees was all about, how to appreciate life beyond work, and the invaluable lesson that what I do can make a difference.
My background in business also includes serving in a large local church managing business operations and personnel, creating and overseeing community outreach efforts, and recruiting volunteers. I have been a practitioner instructor in the online Master of Counseling program at Wake Forest University and occasionally post on my purpose-focused blog site, www.michaelswords.com.
I am a native of Winston-Salem, N.C. and spend my free time traveling with my family, playing with my son, hiking, and working on the house, in the yard, or on a car.
